Wonderfully said!  the saddest thing about freedom is that very year our own governments try to take it away, one bit at a time

It is, WileyFriend, but I believe God also gave us the will to break free the chains of oppression for ourselves and for others on this plane.

This is the poem for peace marches, for freedom of choice, for the
price that freedoms we take for granted have been so hard won with the blood and pain and indignity of others who gave their all in the hope for a better world.

I would have loved to have read this poem  at one of my marches for peace back long ago..... It is a wonderful poem.

Such a passionate poem and Poetess very thoughtful and brave - I pray for all our soldiers, women, men in wartime - Peace is a very powerful draw on Life and livelihood as I recognize balance comes from battles often; pain and sorrow often bring forth the balm needed to restore Peace...ah, it's amazing how speed, efficiency and technology is sought after for more Power - and constantly balance is unbalanced.  Your poem is full and deep; leaves me to ponder (more) and I appreciate your sincerity and genuine heartfelt belief - Write on ~ Elyse

Re:
I respect any and all who follow their heart in good intent, Dear Sam. Reason for the poem was to point out that honoring those who struggled for the liberties we hold dear is to remember the civilian citizenry who sacrificed much in the name of breaking free of oppression; some even gave their lives, as have our brave soldiers. Thank you for commenting and may your beloved son continue to be safe and sound.

It isn't free for the sacrifices come at a heavy price let alone the funding of war! But, on this day I remember those who fought and lost their lives for what they believed! And not I find myself supporting my son although I am not a proponent of war, but he is doing what he believes is right! sam

Everything is soon forgotten Ray except new ways of killing more efficiently

So true, TAPS! We should never forget those who marched, protested, toiled night and day, suffered indignities and much worse to win the freedoms we enjoy and too oft' take for granted..and/or we mistakenly credit the military industry for every liberty we now possess. Thank you.

There is no "free" freedom in this world.  Someone has to pay a high price for it.
The person that forgets that, or doesn't understand it, never really appreciates
the freedoms that they do have.
