beachbelle and Harvey
I think you are both right. Somewhere between a precocious 2nd grader and a slow 4th grader sounds about right.

It is good to remember
that newspapers write to a fourth grade level, to appeal to the largest audience. At least that is what I learned in journalism school 35 years ago. However, I think it has dumbed down a bit since then.

beachbelle,
Found it, Darlin', after the second hint. I don't know how I missed that one. It was definitely worth the read.
The worst I ever had to cover was a mid-air collision over my beat six years ago. It wasn't even a case of body parts. As one eyewitness described it "there were chunks of meat falling with the pieces of planes." I did the job. It was front page with a sidebar and very well received. It just made me sick at heart to have to cover it and to interview family members of the victims. I thought I was done with such things after I left military service.

I'm glad you got the point. Creating fiction is fine and a lot of fun. Passing it off as legitimate news in the media on the other hand...

I think this is why I switched to PR...I worked for an editor whose
newspaper thrived on creating problems that weren't there. Now on the BN I just create stories about things that aren't real...it's kind of fun! lol
