The good news is that we can "unprogram" all the crap that was
programed into us.  The bad news is that depending on how much garbage beliefs have been programed into us, it can take quite a while till we learn who we really are again.

You seem better to have identified and joined thought more with your American friend than trying to stay with the religious fiends who kept an abusive parent going and cast you out.  A good religious community would not have allowed his violence for long.

There are many horrible and frightening people in this world and when you come across them you know the experience stays with you. But forgiving them and letting go of it is a way forward or else even after you have got away they are still there... There are so many people that have to be forgiven so that you can move on sometimes but life is meant as you say to be so much more, not held down by horror. You are a special person, look up and forward, instead of back... and let go. Monsters don't win in the end Tzippy. Good overcomes Evil. :)

I imagine that it must have felt very empowering to do such a simple move of rebellion. I'm glad you were able to find ways to rebel against him.

Tzippy,  being familiar with the type of ignorant hyper religious nonsense  that your stepfather seems to had adhered to,  I have to tell you that I admire your resolve and determination to break free.  You write fabulously and I sincerely hope that you are planning to publish this story.  Great work my friend  xoxoxo
