The post beneath this was for the magpie; I'm not sure how it got on this post.  This is also charming and sounds like a great way to have the Christmas spirit!!

A charming and informative story.  They look kind of "bad" like they could rule a terrritory if people liked them!   The mockingbirds here can imitate cats and trill very musically in the spring.  They visit me on my apartment balcony.

The coffee and fudge grabbed me, Kabu! YUM! And Justi is right, she should have her little jars of delicious concoctions on a table up here! Oh my, I think a diet will be in order BEFORE I do the Christmas cooking - all I can think about after reading this post is food.

Sounds like lots of fun - except for the snow, of course, which we haven't got any of yet, thank God! And it never fails to amaze me that you, the Aussie, actually like this stuff that is inflicted on us each year...

Isn't it a great feeling!

I'm having trouble getting into the spirit. Perhaps if there were gnomes, Christmas crafts, and snow down here. . .  Ah well, for a few moments I experienced it through your words.

sounds like you're having a great time preparing for the holidays, Kabu.  I just took out my Menorah and candles and will light Candle #1 on Wednesday night for the first night of Chanukah!  Mal

Having been born only weeks after WWII Bavarian vulture leaves me cold!
I know it is illogical to feel this way about all of the German people, but I cannot reason my way out of this feeling. Not very comfortable around Japanese and many other Asians, due to the Viet Namese conflict, North Koreans, Russians, and muslims, either. I know that many of these people hate and fear us Americans, and with very good reason, but I truly wish that we could all get along.  Those who are so utterly DIFFERENT, THINK so differently and speak such foreign sounding tongues, will probably remain mistrusted for many in my generation. Probably the generation of our children, will see the Chinese and who knows what other peoples, as their newest bogeymen, and on and on, until somebody ends humanity's existance by pushing of missle launch buttons. Really sad isn't it, that we are too immature a species to survive?

Well Wiley said he will carve some Gnomes after Xmas so we will wait and see. Funny how some food brings back memories and smells also. My Grampy used to boil tripe for his greyhounds and I remember I used to run past the door of the building 'the slaughter house.'  they used to be butchers,'  where it was cooking the smell seemed so horrible. WE used to take a jug and get hot faggots and peas from one shop and hot lardies penny each. I used to love standing on the grating outside a shop that ground coffee just to inhale the essence.

G'day me Queen --- and yes, please about Gnomes and of German food?  YAY!!! yes'm sounds like you had some authentic grub there.  Yum, you must share the recipe of the potato gnochhie or gnoche?  If that be the case, I love this treat.  Sausage was the delight sounds like.  I'm so glad y'all went to the fair and then home again to think of Christmas!!! Gnomes can be rather expensive yes.  I was thinking of doing an elf/gnome theme this year but after pricing some of the ones that I would adore to display...well, it was fun looking.  Y'all have a wonderful night - and I am GLAD you like the snow...I did too when I lived in Maine.  I liked it best when it snowed, for the white freshness and it would actually warm up to me with a new blanket.  (problem was the blankets didn't leave for a while ---  --- like 7 months or so of the layers...sorta made me get this 'fever') ~  C Elyse

That sounds like so much fun. I should have had my little secret kitchen goodies up there. We are taping up everything because we had 34º last night. A snow like you are talking about would lock us in for sure. I can just see it!

I'm glad you controlled yourself at the gnome table with the prices at $25.00 and more. I shall start to carve you some after Christmas. It was a nice evening and even nicer to come home and sit up all night and watch that terrific movie about air traffic controllers. The best part was waking up at 2:00pm today, like royalty or someat loike that. Queen Kabu is the name for ya alroight darlin'.
