Durability is always a problem with unfinished careers.  If not for injuries over the past three seasons, Griffey Jr. would probably still be on his way to 800 home runs, 3000 hits, and many of the other milestones Barry Bonds is pursuing.  If not for fragility through much of his career, Mark McGwire probably would have retired last season with over 800 career home runs.  Ditto Sandy Koufax in pitching records if arm problems had not caused his career to end prematurely.  That is why I always put the "ifs" and "buts" into any projections I make and try to remember the caveat "barring injury or other unforseen circumstances."  That is why I prefer to deal with what has already happened rather than what we can project into the future.

I agree with your assessment of Schilling.  I also tried to indicate that Pettitte's future success was most in doubt.  If not for the time as a reliever in the early stages of his career Schilling would stand head and shoulders over Brown and Pettite.  I think your Red Sox have got a great one who may unfairly be overlooked for the Hall of Fame when he is done.

Durability is a question mark on two of the three
One thing that would worry me as an Astros or Yankees fan is how durable either Brown or Pettitte will be.  Pettitte has an elbow that has been troubling in the past, and Kevin Brown is, in my opinion, one fast ball away from his arm flying off his body.  Not to say Schilling couldn't blow up either, but he has been relatively durable apart from last year, when he had two non-pitching related injuries (appendectomy and broken hand from a line drive).
