Straightforward I love your swimming lesson here. I'm feeling a bit like this lately, of course, I've got to grip the life preserver, not letting fear drown me. New Beginnings can be that way.... I'll stay strong.

Well this sounds so negative Straightforward..it does take effort to keep afloat though but sometimes I like to drown..that way it is the end. Thank you for the visit.

I would challenge the fact that drowning is forever, because once its over

the drowning is done, and than we can go on...and its actually very quick..

as for the rest of the poem, it is a diamond in disguise. For it speaks to many different elements in life. physical, metaphorical, etc etc.

straightforward, yes, one gets tired of trying, then begins again.  No doubt the reason we are limited to one lifetime!

Going against the tide can be difficult. I think we have all felt that way...Like you I do not want to drown. I have so much to do rather than to get complacent.

Oh, this is so true
It is so much easier when the current just carries us along.

drowning isn't a good option so I think that floating for awhile is good.
I like the way you have encapsulated the big issues that are rocking the world these days.
