Kabu I remember going on a holiday when we were kids The neighbor had a caravan and took us down in his car he had three punctures on the way down. My Dad get telling him to blow his horn going round bends. We were so cold in the caravan and hardly any blankets. Poor old Dad piled pieces of wood on top of our meagre covers to try to conserve the warmth. We were glad when the week was up.

We used to go every year in the summer, without fail.  I'll bet it's pretty expensive now for the gas and camping fees.  It used to be a pretty cheap way to go, but nothing is cheap anymore.

Kabu
I've never had one of those, but I can see the possibilities, one of these days...

I find it wonderful to read how your parents spent so much time together. I gather a strong relationship from reading this...I've noticed that the roads are not packed too. Many have been quite limited as to where they can go and how long...

LOL, yes I cannot imagine living in those campers too even on a holiday Kabu. Nothing like jetsetting somewhere and the comforts of a hotel..must be the spoilt me!!

Some of our family's most memorable vacations were camping,
we had a pop-up tent trailer that pulled behind the car,  one trip to Yellowstone Park, the Grand Canyon and the Oregon beaches with five kids. I'll never forget how my heart caught when the kids rushed up to the edge of the Grand Canyon and there were no safety rails. They still talk about that trip. Sounds like your folks knew how to live!

I suppose rising costs is the main reason. Thanks very much for your comment. It was lovely hearing you use "Ash", that's what most people call Ashish!

my parents had a small motor home too, I dont recall them using it that much though.  Gas at more than $3 a gal I would think would keep people at home

Kabu, I don't think it helped that we had temps in the 30's and

high humidities to go along with them..even with air conditioned vehicles, it makes one stop and think...

Plus this new H.S.T. (Hysterical Sales Tax) is confusing everyone and, of course, the price of gas is over a dollar a litre....but, as you say, the summer is young yet, and things could pick up.....
