I enjoy reading about these days. There is much to be learned from the past, I feel.

Such beautiful memories Kabu and the country dance sounds fantastic. Come to Malaysia and I shall take you to have some delectable asian food.

I can remember my grandma wearing those, safety pins included. Wonderful memories you have invoked, Kabu! I read all you posts I had missed (in reverse direction from the posting), loved them all, commented on a couple, and hopefully will be able to keep up now! Hugs to you all!!

Your experiences & stories are a pleasure to read. The tale of the apron strings was delightful, the strings kept the entire household tied up!

Mother
Nostalgic Kabu, but I suppose washing clothes was really hard work in those days unless one had a washer woman usually a poor widow who have to plunge her hands into harsh chemicals and use a big mangel to extract water. You may remember men sometimes used an Hessian sack as a kind of apron. But a man seen to be wearing a proper one would have been a riot. Look forward to your dancing expertise, take it easy

I recall seeing my grandmother carrying items into the kitchen with one...
takes me back to days before the storms of Life drew me away from childhood! Well done, K!

It's funny how a garment can come to represent the wearer
and sight of the garment can recall somebody to us with absolute clarity

At the Land of Goshen market here on Saturday mornings
one woman has a booth where she sells "Retro Aprons," the pinafore kind your mom wore, in bright geometrics or flower prints, with contrasting bias tape bindings. When I remember my grandma Lucy I always see her in a flowered apron, and one of my favorite photos of Mom shows her standing in front of a row of blue delphiniums higher than her head, hoe in hand, with her apron on. Thanks so much for bringing back the fond memories, Kabu.

Mother
I loved this story..My mother wore an apron always when she cooked..I did in my early married years, but I haven't worn one now for years as well.  I guess when I stopped frying things all the time due to high cholesterol, etc, I no longer needed to wear one./LB

In 1958 when I got married, I received quite a few aprons for wedding presents.  For the life of me, I can't remember when I stopped wearing them.  I haven't worn and apron in years.
