I've heard that before. It makes sense and does not surprise me.

Cage, I understand the public safety issue very well
Way back in high school a friend of mine was really into pot and I had gotten on him because it was clear he was addicted. While pot is not chemically addictive, anything can be addictive, and my friend was an addict.  He smoked every night.  Well we made the huge mistakes of cruising around with him driving one night.  He was stoned and was not paying attention to the road as he was going down a mountain and drove off the road into a tree.  I was pissed.  He kept coming up with excuses as to why it happened and never once accept the truth that it happened because he was stoned.  Lucky for us no one was seriously hurt.

If we treated pot just like alcohol, the police would not have been allowed to ignore the fact the my friend was high and it would have been just like a DUI. That is how it should be dealt with.

Marijuana is a red herring

The real target has always been hemp.  Cultivating hemp and replacing petroleum with hemp in clothing, paper, rope and plastic manufacturing and as fuel is where the greatest gains to the economy are.

Carl Peter, who has never smoked anything (heart murmur) but, as a Boy Scout, HATED nylon rope!

Re: Cage
I've tried (many times) to think of every possible scenario that could affect the individual who uses in comparison to how that person's use would affect public safety.  In my opinion, public safety would be the biggest concern.  Just my input.  I like your arguement.

Cage
The public safety issues would be handle basically the same way we already do alcohol.  Whatever you are not suppose to do while drunk, you better not be doing while stoned.  You just for the most part use the same set of laws.

Same with work issues. You don't go to work drunk and you don't go to work stoned.

I'm a fan of legalization but...

...what about Workman Comp claims, because someone is so stoned out of their mind that they drop a wrench from three stories up on to a concrete finisher working on the first floor?

Just playing devil's advocate.  From a leisure point of view I say legalize it, but there are issues when it comes to work and public safety issues.
