No benefits but people really did try to help the poorest, I suppose people lived in small communties and related more to each other, people with dementia just wandered up the village and were not bunged into hospitals, it is all so different. A womans lot though was not a happy one, I would imagine.

How much I love this story and how difficult life was for somany real
people...my grandmother had 7 children the other 6 and brought up 7. ....Land rich but money poor mostly. My Dad eventually made money from wool.....but that was in the 50's.
