I can relate, because I also clean offices (and houses). Offices are much easier to clean than houses I think. But, I enjoy cleaning (and visiting) with the 2 elderly women I clean for.

LOL!  Your professor's words are true! Being a teacher really teach us how to be alert... almost like a cat waiting to attack the birds

As you know I was in education for my career! The key is a professional distance because you will have so many students throughout your career that it will be impossible to meet their individual needs! One can be a teacher and a friend but to get to friendly is just not good! You are so right that we never give ourselves up, keep the edge and the eyes in the back of the heard very alert! I remember once a professor said that do not use the excuse that my grandmother died for there were none left in the state! Lol Teachers just have great instincts! This was a fine post, too! sam

Re: FormerStudentIntern
Yes, I've been following your car wash blog  I also learn the same thing, time is as precious as gold I'm glad I have a part-time job. It keeps me busy and made me realise how hard it is to make money

Re: dsm_tchr
Other profession? I'm thinking of performing(drama/music) and teaching them how to perform on stage Yes, Maslow's is really helpful. We've just started reading Piaget's, Vygotski's, Pavlov's, Skinner's, Schon's, Kolb's and Rogers's. Yes, they are all very revealing of human nature. I've never heard of Triune Brain before, I might as well google it after this.

Re: lustorlove
Sorry to hear that...It must have been hard... 11 years are so long.. How do you find courage staying in that job for such a long time?

Re: Kabu
Good to know that your days had been fulfilling Yes, bosses can be terrifying. I remember one golden rule that I found on the desk of the office clerk.

Rule 1: Your boss is always right.
Rule 2: If your boss is wrong,
Rule 3: Refer to rule 1.

clairerichard, what other profession can you help large groups of people and start over every year?  As for Maslow, what blows me away is the parallels you cab see among Maslow, Erickson, Piaget, Vygotzki, and I love the study of the Triune Brain.  Very revealing of human nature.

I dabbled in student teaching and currently work for my father's car washes. What I have learned is contained in those blogs...One thing that I have learned from my work is how precious time is.
