What a wild set of Aussies.  I wouldn't help them either when Alf gave them the ability to prosper.  I think your dad was right to show loyalty to the immediate  family, for better and worse.   I love reading your stories.  I can see some of it happening.

There is something to be said for the loyalty your father possessed.

You know reading this reminds me of scenes from the Sons of Katie Elder actually - so alive - Love the texture throughout this read.  Of course you add so much with your gift of 'story telling' Kabu - makes me want to lie back and kick my feet up to listen (but then I wouldn't be able to read...) xoxox Elyse

Families are like whimsical crazy quilts.  It's fun reading about yours.  It makes me do a lot of thinking/remembering about the stories mom and dad used to tell me about mine.

Wow, your mother was a saint. I don't know how she managed to keep quiet about your dad helping out his brothers all the time. These are wonderful posts and I know I'm driving you batty with questions all the time I'm reading. Slowly I am putting your family all together, a nice gang of farmers. Hey, I had the house in just the right place for ya darlin', good thing you know about that green side down thingy

What a story! And yes, I think I can understand your Dad, and certainly respect him for his selfless loyalty to his profligate brother...

blood is thicker
I think it was in the old days Kabu, but very often now it seems thinner.

I'm holding my breath, Grandmummy.  I wish I could have known your mum and dad.  They were lovely people, I know.

Bert? Alf? Roy?
My grandfather was Bert, my great uncle was named Alfred, and my rascally uncle - Roy. I keep hearing the theme from the Twilight Zone in the back of my mind!  woh!
