It is, indeed, bad taste to discuss previous relationships with a current one.   I concur. And to be on the recieving end of that is not a good time, as many of us know. I think if their first name is 'Ex'...then they don't count. (Somewhat relevent are the biological parents of your spouse's children, but only on a limited basis).

I agree with that one; that's tricky. The rules are a little different when there is a child or children involved. Cordial, etc. is a must...but it's admittedly tricky. Too cordial (just because you don't want to sound like you live in a morgue) might be misunderstood by an overhearing spouse...I'm not really sure what the answer is there...only that communication is a MUST if you share minor children. Not so much when they're adults, however...sounds like your experience has felt a bit...technical.

Good advice! Mind you, I have always followed the principle of never discussing a previous relationship with a current one - not so much for practical reasons, but because I simply think it's in bad taste...
