So we can choose to do good and not be a robot.  :)

Sam tells it so well here. We choose to love him, to serve him or not. He does not make us. As far as the ten commandments they are ways to help us. All that God does is because he loves us. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son..." I know this verse is used redundantly but it holds the ultimate truth. It is free will. He makes you do nothing. To follow what He has set forth for you is your choice. It's your choice to choose him or deny him. To live and love or hate and die. It's your choice to see heaven or be confined to hell. His rules are set forth so that one day we might join Him in heaven. But God can not be in the presence of evil. That is what hell is. A place where God is not. He does not want anyone of his children to go there but He will not make us do anything. Free will... my dear that is free will

no such thing as free will
we are what we are -- what we were born to be -- and humans have been that way for 2 million years.

civilizations and religions have made rules to regulate human behavior,  the Ten (which is really seven [the first three really are one]) -- and they are not commandments -- that's a post-Jesus thing -- the word the King's translators render commandment is really PRECEPT -- a far cry -- and the Thou Shalt was inserted by the King's translators (interpreters, for that's what they did -- interpret according to their religion) -- they are guidelines -- telling us what bad actions are.  It's like government laws -- rules to protect us from the undesired actions of others.

Without rules, we can grow up and develop chaotic and destructive behavior.

There really are no "heavenly penalties" for straying from these guidelines, just treating others badly -- failing to "Love thy neighbor", the Sabbath being like that -- without its rule, people would have no problem with working others every day without rest -- see?

Then the first three -- check out my translation of the Ten Commandments which is buried somewhere in my posts here.

I've always taken Free Will to mean that you have the ability to choose whether to accept those Commandments or not.

If one loves the Lord they must live by His commandments! It is His expectation! It is free will to choose to love the Lord! It is free will to choose not to love the Lord! sam
