I have a friend who lives in the Hispanic area of KC and became quite fluent in Spanish by using The Holy Bible. She would read aloud from
La Biblia de las Américas, a fairly new translation of the Scriptures from the original languages and translated into modern Spanish. It presents the Word of God in a clear and flowing style which she would then compare each verse to the English counterpart in
The Contemporary English Version. She learned quickly and not only became fluent in Spanish but enjoyed studying The Bible at the same time.

dsm - I studied french while at college and lost touch with it until I started working for a french company years ago and then I started a refresher course. But because I don't speak it or write it so often, it is difficult grasp it as easily as I would like to especially if it is spoken. I tend to understand the written ones more easily.I love the language, it is a very romantic language to know so I have subscribed to a free french lesson that sends me newsletters every time. Sometimes I try writing poetry with bits and pieces of it(sometimes..that is).

We need to start the introduction of foreign languages to students well before they are fourteen. We have a culture that believes it "can't" learn languages...That is really great how you use to your Spanish to help people.

I don't think I read your post before you came back. Maybe that was before I was here. We lived in Mexico every winter for 10 years and 3 summers. The older children are bilingual. The younger children could speak Spanish well, but may lose it if we stay in the USA. I know Spanish, have a fairly good vocabulary, but do not speak as well as I would like. I can communicate with a Spanish only speaker usually. It depends on the person and how they talk though. Thank you for visiting my blog.

there are so many mexicans who refuse to learn the language and take their kids every where as translators, therefore they dont quit get the meaning, but then there are those that pretend they can speak as it make it easier to get away with more. Take our benefits but dont speak English is wrong
