Interesting thoughts, FSI

My first summer job was when I was 14, taking care of an old Italian lady.  She was very emotional, weeping at everything all the time, but she would cling to the same soggy Kleenex until it was little more than mush.  It was a Depression Era thing, I'm sure.

I think we'll go beyond saving vs. spending, and will learn to create lives that are not dependent upon so much money in the first place.  The process will be long, but now is our perfect opportunity to "get it".

Aunt Evva was that way with water.  She lived all of her life, until they retired from farming, with a well that really wasn't adequate for their needs.  Every year in the hottest part of summer the well would dry up and they would have to have water brought in from the city for household use.  I thought that when they sold the farm and moved to the city, they would take advantage of the plenteous water, but nay, nay.  She continued to do the dishes with one inch of water in the dishpan and scalded the "clean" dishes with about a cup of boiling water.  Also they bathed in the tub with only an inch of water and was always fussing at company if they wasted any water at all.  She also had a collection of paper napkins from such eating establishments as MacDonalds.

I work with a lady right now that washes her paper plates and saves every plastic spoon. Frugal, yet curious....

Some habits are difficult to break and fears never seem to go away! A time I can appreciate but not fully understand! It left such an impact on so many people!  sam

I do think this recession will take a long time to get beyond and
for some people life will never be the same. never be as good or as easy.

Hi FSI,
That's a good question.  I hope this recession changes the way that people view money for the better.
