I've lost my oldest child... And my youngest missed his femoral artery by less than an inch with a chain saw.  That was an eight inch gap...numerous staples...truly scary.  I definately understand this guy.  Don't know why he wanted to remain unknown, nothing wrong with anything he's done.  Not even the tears.

The children are often so much braver
than us.

The shock will pass,

for the boy, and he will still have the knowledge that he survived where most would not have.  That his parents were there for him, and knew what to do.  That the community took care of him.

For the parents... All real parents know from before a child's birth, that we could lose that child... someday, somehow... we could in some way fail to protect and nourish, and keep that child alive.  Crib death, accidents, the unforeseen... worse still, the foreseeable we failed to see...  Even when they are grown, we know we can lose them, before they ever begin to think they can lose us, or be lost themselves.

It takes courage to love anyone, but especially, to love our children, knowing the risks.

I take my hat off to this anonymous father who did not fail, and hope he will come around, too, to appreciating fully how well he passed the test.

Gosh, I don't think I would have been able to rescue anyone and much more
my own children!
