Ell and I saw that TV clip, Pat; it was a magnificent viewing.  We shared a derisory cheer when we saw it.

If you remember, I mentioned how surprised I was at the number of police cars that were present.  The reason for that number of cop cars I decided not to mention for the sake of peace and tranquility.  Immediately after the torch was being used to light the 'light' in our town, it was going to travel to a Reservation.

Some of the 'warriors' in the Rez had threatened to disrupt the torch relay because the reservation was a separate 'nation' having nothing to do with Canada.  I'll just leave it there, at the facts, but you may be interested to know that the Canadian Border Post, which was on the Reservation has been closed because the 'warriors' refused to allow the customs officers to be armed.

Shortly after I read this blog I saw a short news bit about
the torch bearer, escorted by a troop of First Nations people on horseback, in full ceremonial gear, headdresses and all. I thought it was a neat image and full of its own ironies.

mneme, I'm still needing to catch up with you.  At least in Sydney it would e warm, or at least it was when we were there.  The thing about the torch relay is that all you see on TV are the posed parts, in my opinion.  Still it does stitch the country together.

Hi mac.. thanks for your comments on my blog lately.. I'm catching up. I remember a similar experience when the Olympic torch was passing through the Sydney suburbs.  Very hard to catch more than a glimpse of the (electric) torch as the five-foot-nothing bearer ran by, surrounded by the crowds and by halted traffic.. a nightmare of delay, since I had forgotten it was happening and was due to pick up my 18-year old daughter from the gym.  In the end, she walked back, and was still home before I was.

Thanks for the poem Pat.  It started off as a sardonic day and believe me it finished in the same manner.

I'm quite sure it was a woman, but I must admit the photograph is blurred.  You're lucky that woman in your life always catch you up.  In my life they are always waaay in front of me wondering where the heck I've been.  They don't accept that I've been conversing with Ferengi citizens.

I love this blog's sardonic tone

much more than just the narrative bone
there's hoopla and image and then what's real
I like writers who tell it as folks really feel.

I hope the games go well in Whistler. Lots of Seattle folks used to ski there a lot, even though there are lots of mountains in their own back yard.

The torch bearer was a WOMAN?!!
Johnny,
Sorry, that was an ancestral outburst, from my Ferengi forebears. Women can run fast, too. They have been outrunning me all of my alleged life! They always catch me, no matter how fast I run. Gotta quit smoking............. cigarettes!
