Sorry Darlin', I didn't make the connection until you pointed it out.  I guess I just never considered political rhetoric to be any kind of example of writing:  good or bad.  I did read your post and enjoyed it.  Maybe that is what set me off on my post.  Thanks.

No way you're getting old, Babe.  I think the reason more writers don't discuss this nifty little trick is that in order to admit you use it, you also have to admit that you talk to yourself.  Lots of us are already sensitive about the myth of writers being someone strange.  I don't know how such a myth could have ever gotten started.
