What a lovely discovery you are!
I haven't been around much in recent years.  It's so nice to see someone with such new and interesting things to say ... who's well read here.  I have read several entries and it will be a joy to read you more in the future.

Re: Nautikos.
I know you make the distinction between moderate/relaxed Muslims and Islamo-Fascists.

Distinction between 'Your Muslims' and 'my Muslims':

This could be due to what I can understand are different points of view about aniconism in Islam. However even if some Muslims are relaxed about depicting Muhammed, it surprises me that they think it is funny or apt to depict him with a bomb in his turban. Now at times artists produce uncomplimentary cartoons about Christians, and they are offended too; this for example. When I see examples of anti-semitic cartoons, I too am offended and I'm moderate/relaxed in my Jewish religious practice.

Idiotic reactions: if they mean by this the wanton violence and vandalism that followed the publication of the cartoons. Yes, I agree.
If they mean the debate that followed about the sense and common decency in publishing the damned things in the first place I do not think it was idiotic.

Before anybody else mentions it I know perfectly well that there are some perfectly disgraceful examples of anti-semitic  and anti-Christian films in Arab media. However don't we all learn that two wrongs don't make one right?

Thanks for visiting and have a merry, merry Christmas!

Thought provoking and so connecting..in a reasoned, sane fashion..
Every religion, culture, etc.  has extremists, haters and truly good, loving people.  Blanket ignorance/prejudice suffocates any hope humankind has of joy in peace. Thank you for this, Elinjo.

Ah sweet Elinjo ~ persecution comes to many - Jewish - Catholic - Baptist - Muslim - Indian - Pakistanian - Mexican...(you get the gist)

I have some neighbors that for their culture in festivity, butcher a pig for the holiday - I shiver at the whole idea - however, just accept their lifestyle as to honor them...as long as they don't touch my animals I'm fine - albeit, I wonder how they miss being among their familiar kin and lifestyles...It must be lonely - there are many oppressive situations in this world.  As a whole, we are all individuals learning how to live side by side, alongside each other - and that's difficult in itself.  I pray for your friends - I pray for those innocent no matter what has been characterized --- I'm not a redneck but, there are so many cartoons depicting a Texan as such --- One has to develop their thick skin - fortitude and character by persevering no matter, and I pray Love shines from the truth.

~I enjoyed your blog here - Elyse

its funny you write on this subject as just the other day we noticed someone was moving into the condo two doors down.  It has sat for a year now empty and it looks as though the people ran out, in the middle of the living room sat a vacuum and other things lying around.  My son said it looks like they gutting it out.  We have six units too but they are all good size from 2-3 bedrooms.  In the last couple months people have filled up the three empty units.  But unlike your neighbors to us Anglos they hardly speak to us. And some dont care if they speak English or not

I do like and support your goodwill posts. People make veiled comments in hatred and then later rationalize. I have Muslim friends, both good and bad, but then this is the general lot of people as such.

Elinjo

The import of this post is not lost on me, LOL! As you know, I have always been careful to distinguish between moderate or, as I call them, 'relaxed' Muslims, and Islamo-Fascists.

And as I mentioned somewhere in my posts (I think), I have several Muslim friends, among them one lady who, because of her relationship to a member of the family, is practically a member of our family herself.

There is one distinction between 'your' Muslims and 'my' Muslims - not a single one of 'mine' was upset about the Danish cartoons! They thought they were funny and apt, and were upset over what some called the 'idiotic' reaction on the part of so many...

And thanks for the beautiful card...

Sounds like you have some neighbors that are really no different than anybody else.

This is a lovely post. I have no problem with respect and friendliness between neighbors, no matter how different they may be from our own lifestyle. It's a good thing.

Re: Taps: head covering
Thanks for telling us about your sister's neighbor. Quite a few well educated and emancipated Muslim womenhere cover their heads . It is a custom for high-school graduates to wear a cap during and immediately after their graduation. Last summer I saw a number of young women wearing their caps on top of their head-scarves; how's that for a statement?

Betty, you're so lucky to have nice neighbors--wish mine were half as decent; sometimes feel jinxed! Thanks very much for the interesting note and link, and also the mail! Will check out the link now! Have a good day! Nita.

My Kansas City Sis has a next-door neighbor that in over five years, she has never seen her without her head covering.  She doesn't even take it off in her own home when Sis is there.  But, her head covering does not hamper at all their enjoyment of visiting with each other.
Very nice video.  Thank you.

If peace begins between two neighbors, the good will can spread
to their families, and from there... It's a good thing, leads to understanding and acceptance. And we learn so much.
