THE GREATEST DEFICIT (AS % OF GDP) WAS DURING WWII
that spurred manufacturing & other jobs.   the 50's was a peeriod of relative prosperity, the most prosperouis, in fact, it would seem.

residual economic activity succeeding WWII, increase in wages (thanks to unions), the resultant increase in spending -- and, if you notice the graph, the smallest deficit as a % of GDP.

the figures speak for themselves.

so do all the major economists who stated unequivocally in October 0f 2008 that the massive injection of money into the economy was necessary in order to stave off a Depression that would make the Great Depression pale by comparison.

Again, John McCain would have done the same thing as Obama, had he been President.  Every influential economist suggested the great spending.

Of course, if you would rather have the Great Depression -- maybe you can find some place where you can enjoy such.

Xeno
Can you understand that we the small people do make the economy of 'on the ground spending',  buying our refrigerators, cars etc. However, if there are no jobs for the working class, the uneducated there will be no money for those sales. You must have large manufacturing and investors in order to have small businesses all over the many neighborhoods to grow an economy. It is the rich that invests in our small businesses to keep the workers with money in their pockets. How much do you know first hand about any of this. How about taking some of the word of us who have labored, provided small business jobs for others and took care of them before we took care of ourselves. I am writing to you to actually see if you have a single bone of care or any knowledge of what you espouse. It is not about either political party it is about FREEDOM to all in this country. I have seen not one single iota of sense come from you, just controversy on what ever is printed by a conservative.

lol, that is funny

how can you buy into something like that?

when you are broke to spend money you dont have in order to prosper? at first glance it seems too insane, however, i guess it would depend on what and how you spend it,

and who is giving you the money, what terms they give you, and what do they want in return? are you spending money that your children and grandchildren will work their entire life to return?

Re: Re: Re: I Agree
well, yes, but . . .

according to the article, "In the Great Depression, Roosevelt tried deficit spending, but he was too timid. Then he stopped in 1937 and the economy nose-dived. It took the humongous deficits of WWII to pull us out of the Great Depression. Those deficits blasted the economy from depression into overdrive."

because of deficit spending.
