To be able to properly bring these on, it consumes so much of time that there is hardly any left for reading or commenting. Think that should also not be. But you know doing these gives me great satifaction and hones my writing skills as well. Poetry, yes, I will, but they don't come so natural to me. But encouragements and the egging on that I get from you and others, really makes my day. So, I wait for your sapient comments. Thank you from the bottom of my  ~ Aba, your fan.

You have dealt with the essence of the poem so well! Love has been immortalized several times. We have the stories of Heer ranjha,Laila Majnu & of course not to forget hindi cinema(jo vada kiya woh nibhana padega, roke zamana chahe roke khudha bhi tumko aana padega........lovely song)But I would go with Dr Harivanshrai Bachchan..........iss paar priyee tum ho madhu hai, us paar na jane kya hoga!

Thank you for asking. I can understand the pain ... of, and in ... the question. To my way of thinking, Time is a non-entity; it exists for none except man. At best it is only a witness, never interfering. Probably that is the best way one can reconcile with Time.

That is a very appropriate quote by Leslie Stephen which Hardy had noted down too, and which shaped his poetry in his later years, as you rightly point. Thank you so much for this input, I must keep in mind.

Time doesn't just play tricks on lovers.
How can it not be one of time's tricks for a mother to watch
a beautifully healthy young son in the prime of life sicken and die, and the mother
live to be an old hag?

Thomas Hardy this is a very indepth look at the poet rather than
the write. So well done.

I do like Thomas Hardy! He thought himself to be a poet, but realized the need to write books to get his poetry out there! He was 58 when his first volume of poetry was published. I think this poem is reflective of a quote I keep next to me, the ultimate aim of a poet, 'should be to touch our hearts by showing his own, and not to exhibit his learning, or his fine taste, or his skill to mimicking the notes of his predecessors.' I think he practiced when he said! sam

I recently saw a movie by the title Elegy that was pretty intense,
featuring Ben Kinsley. Your write up here was really intriguing. Good job!
