One summer we camped in Montana. We had a tent by a very cold clear stream, saw moose, bear and a skunk sprayed our dog. We got our water from a spring. Hope to hear more stories about when you lived in a cabin in Montana.

I love the Pacific Northwest, but you make it sound like a hard life.
I know what that's like--hard life in a beautiful place. Through the years I spent
some wintertime visits in an old adobe farmhouse atop a mesa in northern New Mexico
where water had to be carried and bathing was cold, cold, cold, and
wood had to be carried in for the fireplace and for cooking.
