Happens all the time.  When my kitties are outside and I hear the call of what sounds like a large bird, I go running out to scare whatever it is away.  Plus there are coyotes, but they seem to at least be mostly nocturnal, and we bring the kitties in at night.

I'm not sure whether a hawk could carry away our oldest cat, though.  She's about as big and heavy as a doorstop.

Absolutely; and we have to be very careful of Mr. Graysome whenever
we take him outside;always on his harness and leash . There is a beautiful big hawk that has already swooped him once.
