Re:
I am sorry If It sounded as though I was not grateful for Hospice. I have a lot of respect for them. i don't know how they deal with a job so painful. I had a great nurse with Charlie. I spent more time with him than I did my family. He was a great man. We sat and talked for hours the night before Charlie died. He told me what to expect. and just hung out with me. He even came to his funeral. I didn't have any family help at all, for the most part. The did have a women come in two times to help me bathe him in five weeks. Like I said they are very busy because they are so many people now that are deprived the early detection. Therefore, They are signed over to hospice. They are way understaffed. It does take a very special; person to do this kind of job. The reason I was able to have hospice as long as I did the full six weeks is because Charlie was Mentally retarded. He was determined not to get hooked on drugs, and He didn't take the morphine and he was up and running around. One day his nurse Jim came in and Charlie had a fishing pole going fishing. Jim said, He is supposed to be in bed. If he don't die soon we are going to HAVE TO DO ALL OF THIS PAPER WORK AGAIN. I didn't know at that time what he meant . It was that they get paid one lump sum for the first 6 weeks. And only half that if it went over that 6 weeks. I know with my grandmother back in 1994 when she died. It was like having family come in they had time to set around and talk to the family's and just made it so much better for everyone.. Now it is as though they run in, take blood pressure, look and their feet and other signs of dying. It is very upsetting to the paitiant. And painful to watch as family.

I have worked with some mighty wonderful hospice nurses that deserve a crown of gold for what they do.  I have no complaint at all, and only praise for the hospice care given my Auntie, the hospice care given my sister, and the hospice care given my daughter-in-law, all by different hospices and with different nurses and aides.  I pray that you have a good experience with this one.
