You write so that I now have a feel for these characters. Oh and there are
still plenty of these sterio type girl Fridays in small town business and they are very often, quite deservedly the subject of gossip. Some times they are the local hairdresser instead.

Mrs. Wiggins? You talkin' about the genius bit from the old Carol Burnett show? I think she was adapted from a 1950s stereotype -- pre-feminist era character. She's gone the way of the dodo bird and mother-in-law jokes.

Agreed there are lots of interesting characters here. I liked the bit about chemistry, cooking and chocolate chip cookies.
