Taps, for the past couple of years I've kept Christmas very low-key, for the same reason.. people who know you will understand.  One year, also, when money wasn't a problem but everyone seemed to have so much of everything, we all agreed between the adults that we would give a donation to charity instead.  No one needs all that 'stuff', not really.. it's the family celebration that matters.

PS - I've caught up with the last few weeks and always enjoy your posts.

'A kitchen dragging a village behind it' is like a the whole lot of village folks got themselves invited to your kitchen for a feast. And there is not enough in the kitchen to feed so many. Christmas connection. So it is, indeed!

Money can definitely put a lot of unneeded stress on people during the holidays.

I just loved that blog, and the name of La Dinde, Toulouse has a certain ring to her name. LOL

In my family, we decided to pick up a name in a bag and buy only one gift for that person. But of course, the little kids don't count, or your spouse or your own children or.....Must I continue the list of exceptions!!! So, now, whenever I find something that I think would please someone, and that is not too expensive, I buy it!Whatever the season! Don't care. As long as it done.

Re:  Troosha ~
A smile, a hug, and a good meal sounds like a winner to me.

Re: You have a Santa Claus collection?
Re:  Pat-B ~
It started in 1965 with an accident--the breaking of an antique glass snow ball with a Santa inside.  I rescued the Santa and sat him on the piano.  Soon everyone was giving me a Santa to keep him company.

Good to see you blogging again.  Just about the time I think you are gone for good, you show up again in full dress (photos).  Happy to see you again.

Taps

I used to be one of those freaks that starting Christmas Shopping in June or July; visiting country craft fairs for interesting or unique gifts.  I’d also pick things up whenever I travelled and then I would make these very Martha Stewart-like gift baskets each with a variety of carefully chosen items.  Pheww… how did I ever find the energy?  I think the rule of no shopping hit me at 50.  I make up little gift bags for the grandchildren but everyone else – they get a smile, a hug, and a good meal.

You have a Santa Claus collection?

OMG! I thought my former daughter-in-law was unique in that. She always loved the holidays, her Santas came out right after Halloween and stayed there till mid-January.

I'm crocheting scarves and hats for Christmas gifts. Keeps my hands busy and away from fat snacks.

I like shopping
for myself, gifts... It isn't that I am comletely selfish, although I am, but I am thankful that I live far from christmas..., sometimes, don't get too stressed over christmas shopping I think I would just hole up!!

I had to back track through your blogs and discovered where the great names

for "our" turkey arrived from. So sophisticated so   for a Turkey.

I went Christmas shopping last night very late  on the internet. I ordered a gift for each of my Grandchildren. I have bought somethings for Wiley over the net for his stocking. I don't intend to go into the shops much in December. I make cards and calanders using photos and art work fromthe net, Anything to keep out of the shops.....and it is good fun when the parcels arrive or I finish a project. So follow your instincts like Hulda does and take care of you, getcunning like me.

But, I sure had fun sharing the wealth when I had it.
Now I have fun not having it.  LOL.   I am aware that I am "rich" compared to so many others around me.

I'm glad that I wrote this post here at the beginning of November because I'm getting some really good suggestions to get me going.  Yours is one of them.  Thank you.

Skye08 ~  Thank you so much for the suggestions.  Because I hate to shop I never even go to the Dollar stores.  I think that you have given me what I need here--impetus to do some little thing for each.  I like all of your suggestions.

Christmas shopping. OMG especially on a fixed income.  We started drawing names and that helps a lot.   I found the Dollar Tree has many wonderful things for a dollar and you can make a cute basket of dodas.  I also take pictures and write poems and frame them for gifts.  The Dollar Tree has a lot of nice frames for a dollar.  This year I'll be painting canvas pictures and framing them.  Last year I crocheted afghans with yarn I got for a dollar at the Dollar Tree.  Big Lots also has yarn for a dollar.  I been rich and I been poor, rich is better.

Hmmm...I've never read this, more Longfellow's Christmas Carol ~ Now, I must read.  Thank you TAPS for the suggest.  Now, as far as Christmas...I was just telling my husband on the way home today, that with Halloween over, comes the Christmas trees...we saw them being put up in some displays (for sale mind you...live ones that is...)  After many years of over doing it for the holiday, well this year I've decided only one particular item per family... we've got much to be thankful for and this year that is what I conclude (er wrap up that is) and bring as gift(s) to them all ~ and mostly, I want to prepare for our retirement - to learn how to truly budget on a 'fixed' income.  I understand, TAPS ~  ~ Elyse

Marquez is one of the (unfortunately many) writers of whom I know without actually knowing them, because I've never read them...I always need a spur to get me into my 'novel-reading' mode, and you just gave me one...

As to this Christmas shopping thing, I look forward to it only in fear and trembling...

Re: Darson -- That's even better....
Every year I try to get sons to promise that they won't spend their hard earned money on me for Christmas.  If the law was for below 40, they would all be too old to shop.  LOL

Ugggh. Not the dreaded Christmas Shopping...I don't really like shopping of any kind, to tell you the truth. I have to be in a certain frame of mind,(lunacy!!) and I hardly ever get to that point nowadays. I'm with you, I think we should just leave the shopping to the young! Everyone under 40!
