Re: Uh-oh
Whacky ~  You are so cute and funny.  Even after this incident, I'm not quite sure what "check engine light" means.  Exactly what is one supposed to do when that light comes on?

Re:  BC-A ~
It all turned out well, except for a lighter wallet.  I have it back and it drives like a dream.

Thank you for sharing. I guess not, love. BC-A, Bill’s RJLst

Uh-oh
Then maybe the 'check engine' light means something too. Should I make a few checks  on it?

Re:  FormerStudentIntern ~
You are right of course.  But, there are certain things that don't interest me very much, one of them being car mechanics and maintenance.  LOL

I know!     Sons are always getting on to me about that.

The worst of all is sliding into thick slick country mud.  LOL.  I'll never forget that one.

Re:  Kabu ~
Oooops!  So that's it!  I'm way behind on the vacuuming and washing.  It probably rebeled because there is some bird poop on it.

Re:formerStudenintern
The tender sex is made to sit back and let the boys get on with this type of thing. Our part of the bargain is to utter abject thanks and oodles of praise. Anyway, that's my excuse.

Having read about poor Tap's predicament I can tell you that I would have found myself in the same or an equally inconvenient situation. Never having even thought of learning to drive a car- (it's never been necessary) I consider that this ignorance is the greatest contribution I've made to the good of the world.

Re:  Troosha ~
We live and learn, don't we.  LOL.  Oh yes, the expense.....you would have to mention that.

Re:  lustorlove ~
Actually, one did--my big hunk of a son.  Son came across town as soon as I called, with jumper cables, thinking that was all I needed.  But, each time he started it, it would die as soon as I tried to drive it.

Taps

Sorry about the car and the inconvenience (not to mention the expense).  “B” is constantly telling me to never disregard the little light show on my dash.  In 1973 I learned that one must put oil in a car otherwise a sudden banging will occur, the car will come to a grinding halt, and you will “blow and engine”.

there is one of those lights that come on and I can never tell what it is a picture of but I think it is telling me I need to tighten my gas cap, I  have had my car not want to go because of the gas cap is not tight.  I dont have any idea where the manual is on my car to look it up. So I guess no big hunk came along to save you this time

Re:  shobana ~
I very much prefer to learn by googling things, not breakdowns, LOL.  After I finally got home yesterday, I googled "alternator" and boned up on that and a few other things that go along with it.

Re:  Pat_B
It definitely was time for mine and I'm glad to get it done.  I just got a call from them and it will all be done by noon today.

I've just been thinking it's time for my fall tune-up.
Thanks for the reminder.

perhaps they should make the pictures more alarming...
say an image of the car blowing up, or something?

I can't laugh - I don't drive at all, preferring my feet or a bicycle

Taps - You've just shown us there is a never-ending quest in learning.

TAPS
Such a lovely tale about a woman and a car. It is precious. i am autoignorant but you have dredged a memory that I want to write about too. This one is so well written. Your are my inspiration not for learning more about cars but writing.

Oh I'm with you; how dare they put cute pictures up when impending doom
is at hand......or getting closer. I  know very littleabout under the bonnet of a car. I explain this to a car when I start to drive it and it is uptothe car to keep going.I will wash it, vacuume it, give it gas, oil, and water.....well the pump man will anyway, the rest is uptothe car to keep going.

I love the way you wrote this post!  I could write a lot of stories about when I got stranded. It's no fun when it's cold and raining.
