Excellent poem! And I admire your steadfastness! I can't even make it a
day of sobriety, never mind 41 years...

I guess we're all empty wagons when we start,
Wiley, this is a metaphor that could be stretched "forever." Nicely done.

VEry well written! It is highly meaningful! I am not a drinker but I can appreciate the struggle! Thanks for asking if everything is okay! I am fine and the poems I write never about what is going on! Some parts are influenced and I make a notation, but I am usually out to stir my reader, much like this fine poem! sam

This is a magnificant post. Would you care if I copied and showed this to my evening class this week on Sunday night? All of them have been adicts or aolcholics. Nobody can pull that wagon for them.

I don't want to pull my own wagon. I want some big ol' horsies to come and
pull mine for me. Sigh.......those Budweiser husky horsies.

BRAVO, WileyJohn!!! I am learning about the twelve step program to support some friends of mine; everyone should do these to clear out their garbage. I haven't had a drink in 21 years, so I know how good sobriety can feel. Everything got better once I quit...or should I say 'began'?
