Re:SF ... I think we had this poem in our English text in school?
It is a sort of reunion then. Isn't it so, straightforward? Thank you for your visit.

Re: shobana
For so many I know it may only be a revision but they are also reminscences. And it is always good to meet old acquaintances. And I am glad for your continued readership and liking them, too.

Abanerjee - Just wonderful..I took the liberty of reading up on the poet..and am so glad you led me to this revelation. I must say you are doing a fantastic job of summarizing the works of great poets.

Re: snowview
Yes, Donne, the best of his metaphysical conceits and all who then followed during the seventeenth century, intellect, science, poetry, philosophy, all inclusive. Thanks Nita.

Yes, he's a brilliantly sauve poet and a great hymnodist, and works up fine concrete imageries. Will write more on his poetry. the metaphysical if I get time. Thank you ma'am.

This brings back memories of my college days when this poem had to be studied in great detail!

I love George Herbert's poetry. he wrote a number of hymns too, which are still popular.

Re: Troosha
Striving for the wrong cause is what is our undoing, but we are never willing to own up our wrongs, nor are we willing to realize they were. That is the whole problem. I know what all you had to undergo, they all came crowding one after another, so just not let it cross your mind that you did not read or comment. You are one brave lady I admire and look up to. Do drop in only when you feel like. On a long term basis everyting averages out. There are days when I don't even look up my mails or blogit.

abanergee

There’s something to be said for “restlessness” – at the very least it keeps us striving.  The only problem is that some insist on striving for the wrong things.  I’m sorry I’ve not been around much (in terms of commenting on your posts…these last few weeks have left me somewhat speechless). Perhaps some days I should just leave you a   to let you know I dopped in.

Re: Nileangel
As you rightly say, it is always unlimited; only that we have to transform oureslves as a receptacle to His Grace.

You'll find it interesting that he was earlier a thorough non-believer.

From restlessness to rest is the journey

I think this was a fine explanation, too! It makes sense that we would not rest in this life, for things must be earned, and toiling is one to determine one worthy of the prize as it were! sam

I agree with Elyse this is an excellent find...One for more study for sure! Yes, God does require our toil in life and our faith, but with both of those it does sure keep us moving forward...This is sure food for thought! Well done yet again!!

Re: Romor
The Rest and the Refreshing makes a lot of sense. Running is toil, which we tend to think that rest will spoil. Thank you for your visit and the insightful comment.

Abanerjee ~ what an excellent find here.  I must study that poem ~ Ah...rest the final treasure - gift from God~ makes sense to me oddly enough --- but, comes from latter teachings in my life.  Now, today I will ponder this, the meaning of rest, God's treasures and blessings...and all because Abanerjee asked the question:  Why 'Rest' in the bottom lay?  and thanx for your typical inspiration ~ Elyse

posted by elysianfields on October 21, 2009 at 9:52 AM | link to this | reply

abanerjee, isn't that interesting, and it is true..God does not give man

Rest (cap mine) until man asks for it, and man is usually all too reluctant to ask....why?

Pride?  You'd think man would learn after a few situations without rest where and Who to go to for it.Its  mentioned in the New Testament in more than one place: "the Rest and the Refreshing" (caps mine)....
