A bit more information, please . . .

I have read your blog again, RedStatesMan, and it would be useful if you were to provide details regarding those checks -- like whose gov't withheld the funds -- feds or state --  and for what reason --  letters are sent and reasons given in such cases -- what does the letter say?

this does seem odd.  Is there a prior debt?  Did some creditor enact withholding against the check?  There are all sorts of reasons for withhold besides feds arbitrarily doing so.

Also, the Federal Budget takes effect on Oct. 1; and your parents' check should not be affected then by budget changes -- the budget that affects that was passed by the previous Congress and signed by President Bush.

YOUR STATE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THOSE CHECKS

You mentioned DSS -- and that is a state agency.  Any snafu or problem is on the state level, not the federal, on an administrative level, not political.

You have drawn a faulty conclusion as far as I can see.

RedStatesMan . . .  I'm afraid this country has reached a level of uncaring mediocrity, the likes of which we have never seen before.  And I dread what is yet to come.  On a   personal note, I am so sorry about your folks and their(your)predicament.  The entire system is on meltdown.  joab
