My neighbor
It's true, some do make out good. My neighbor lady had an old rundown mobil home on 5 acres, not worth $500. When hurricane Charlie came thru they gave her $12,000 for it. So what does she do? She pays off the land and the piece of junk is still sitting there. Chuck

They may have compassion in their heart, want to help, but when they return home it's the "same thing". It definitely will work on their heart in ways that may not be seen if they put the effort, time and money to help the less unfortunate in disaster situations. Maybe it won't happen all at once. If it doesn't happen at all, and they are just doing it to be seen by others, then that is sad.

It's a bit difficult to know why people want to be charitable and magnanimous. They might have ulterior motives in the sense of wanting to score Brownie points, but if the net result is that the receivers of this help benefit, it's better than nothing.

I tend to assume people are sincere
But maybe I'm naive

I would say this is quite dubious and shows how low these opportunists are.
