Re: Elyse, you are one of the best poets on Blogit and have nothing to worry
Dear Ariala, why thank you much for your comment back and I am honored, as I respect and admire your works as well.  I think I had a reflexive moment there.  Years ago, I was a 'novelist' (editor) on the Amazing Instant Novelist site on AOL.  My intentions were to encourage other writers/poets and when I critiqued at times it became difficult and instead there was a tinge of discouragement that others took instead.  I was only a  novelist/editor for a year as I simply could not continue trying to assert advice or honest critique and not be taken otherwise as negative or condescending; it just plainly did not work for me.  I was discouraged from writing in my youth by an english teacher in high school and I promised myself as I continued seeking my creative artform that nothing would stop me or hold me back...so therefore, I could not be part of anything that would discourage or take away the aspiring of anyone expressing themselves.  Does that make sense?  LOL... In short, I was not comfortable being a critic --- never was my intention...in and by editing, I was only meaning to encourage.  What is one id's junque is another's treasure (something like that)~  I do appreciate your blogs, as they bring light to much and you certainly offer a great deal of inspiration to others.  I commend you ~   ~ Elyse xoxo

Elyse, you are one of the best poets on Blogit and have nothing to worry

about...you maintain high standards of originality and beauty in all forms in your writing and poetry.  I love your work and say that in ALL honesty!

I think Blogit is a catch all and people like it that way...so there's nothing to worry about...My opinions were posted in this blog but they are just that, opinions and I certainly didn't mean to make you feel bad as I sure wasn't addressing your excellent work!

Dear Ariala ~ I'm on for just a brief bit while resting with my daughter-in-law in Maine (shew mouthful) and I wanted to let you know that I am here on blog-it because I like to write - and I like to read, however, I don't feel comfortable 'critique-ing' other's poetry...I like to read and enjoy ~ I was just wondering if in fact, if one wants to have their work critiqued or have an editor to respond, should there be a specific blog site for that???  I guess I'm confused as to if this site is for professional writers ~ or more for the privacy factor (for some) --- allowing (me) to write and enjoy a community of writers but not stress for the deadlines or even commitments  or for 'perfection' (oy) --- and what I mean to say is, I don't mean to write cliches or anything else; I write comments from the heart - for the moment and absolutely not would I ever tell anyone person that their art/their writing or anything as such 'sux' --- 'cause that's just plain 'rude' ~ Now, if one asks for specific 'help' with a blog, or a work on the blog, I could try and give my aid ... but with the understanding that I by no means am a 'professional' or trained or licensed perse editor.  Elyse (feeling some pressure LOL)

No Ariala, you are not being a meanie simply because you honestly mean it. And the way it has been written is both thought-provoking and self-analytical for a reader, at least it has been for me. One asks, yes, I have done that at times and it's not the right thing to do. But then there are ways of saying; some people tend to be offensively aggressive in their criticisms, often without any knowledge of the subject they are criticizing (they have the notion that they are superior writers). One way of making one improve is to say that "you are good, but you can be better". Then cite an example or two, or don't, if you are genuinely knowledgeable. There are some here I saw telling "don't come to my blog, you'll not be missed", or, the most childish blocking business prevalent around here. Oh, let my ramblings rest here in peace

I tend to mostly read journals on here where people don't seem to ask for feedback. The poems and short stories I do read on here very few do ask feedback. When I get a rare instance I do give feedback.

A blogger named Fiona from a couple of years ago advised me to get on Blogit for the writing practice. The comments are invaluable to me, if I do something note-worthy. If not, I know it; there aren't any comments! That seems fair....I always appreciate the feedback, and hope that it is genuine, as I try to be with my comments. This is a good post with something I've wondered about, as well. Thank you.

I don't know I read things that I hate and other people love.  I guess there is a market and audience for everyone.  It depends on wether you want to be political correct, popular or happy with your work.  Such a dilemma.

You touch on something very relevant here.

I don't want to be told that 'my writing sucks', that would probably make me want to give up. On the other hand I welcome constructive advice as to how it could be improved. On several occasions I've asked for honest feedback and  especially the last time I did it, I got lots of useful and constructive feedback.

I agree with you that Blogit members are very, very kind to each other . It could very well be that for many members that's sufficient.

It's difficult to generalize; we need to be perceptive and sensitive in the way we respond to each other. Some of us are more robust than others.

The Blogit system does seem to encourage 'quick'/superficial comments; after all let's face it each time we comment on a post we are marketing our own product. Thereby we score more clicks and earn a few more cents (sorry to be cynical .)

Thank you for bringing up the subject.

I for one
value your opinion.  Although I haven't had much time to write I look forward to whatever comments you may leave at one of my post.  Thanks for reading!

So much depends on the situation, it's not easy to

tell someone who's eager and motivated their work is crapola. Some people have genius ideas and the story inside the wall of typos and confused prose is worth editing. Most people hate rewriting, don't want to edit. I guess potential is in the eye of the beholder, but I don't say something's got potential or it's good unless it is (in my opinion).

If I read someone and it's clear they're lazy about grammar and careless with spelling, that new work isn't an improvement over older attempts, I simply move on. I vote with my shoes -- or on Blogit, I let my fingers walk away.

I welcome constructive criticism. No one is perfect and I know my limitations. At the same time, I would not like to hurt someone if he or she is a good friend!

I TRY TO FIND SOMETHING POSITIVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT BLOGGER
EVEN IF I'M NOT SO STRUCK ON THE WORK THEY HAVE DONE.MOSTOF US GET SOMANY REJECTIONS WITH OUR WRITING I CAN'T BRING MYSELF TO BE TOUGH. PLUS I SUSPECT STRONGLY THAT MOST OF MY OWN POETRY IS .....DIFFERENT.BUT THERE ARE GREAT POETS HERE.

Generally I don't comment at all unless I like the work.  If they do ask for honest feedback, I give it, but only if I'm sure they really want it.  Sometimes people say they want honesty when actually they don't.

your writing sucks

Well not yours, at least not this post of yours I read.Thank you so much for your honesty. I felt a bit guilty for not having the time to read everybodys writing, but then when I did I wasnt that impressed. So I imeadiatly set out to do what I do best.Instigate and Irritate. But at least I try to make people think and I dont care if they agree or not,as long as it stimulated their minds. There's to much boo-hooey diatribe and self pity and loathing in so much of this morose and uninspired poetry written by people here at blogit. I find it quite snoozy.Yea I know this will piss people off...but you know what they say, when your good at something stick with it. Check out my other sites at wordpess.com. There free and much cooler. Nice to see some one else step forward with the truth thanks.
