Re: Boyne, MI
Oh my goodness! Not only do I know Mary Free Bed Hospital, I have had the unfortunate experience of going there! I had a student who suffered from a closed head injury! It was so horrible! He was never the same even though they did everything they could to repair the damage! Damn kids were up in the hills screwing around in the back end of a pickup and he was thrown from the vehicle! Spinning a yarn is a big adage in that neck of the woods! I miss the summers there, but they can keep their winter wonderland! Have a great day! I will go out and look for your story! Since you were at Mary Free Bed Hospital it couldn't be very good! sam

Boyne, MI

Yeah - there really isn't anywhere in this world, to me, that can beat out Northern MI.

Living in Florida now, and I wouldn't trade in the winters now for anything. But I miss those small port towns, with your gang of 'yacht snots' that belly up to a local pub - stick out like a sore thumb...lol. That's what I love, is people up there (far north) are so real. They say what they mean, and make no excuses. No reason for lying, because nothing is big enough or worth while enough. Well, let me stop myself right there, because I guess I'm imagining some sort of fantasy land! You can really tell I'm home sick. You'll find 'liars' or 'fibbers', 'story-tellers', or I think gramps use to call it, 'spinnin-a-yarn'(?),something like that, do you remember that saying? Anyhow, I didn't know if you'd be interested, but you inspired me through the emails to write about the accident. It's been 13 yrs., but was still very difficult. I didn't tell all, so I'll make another entry - tell some pretty crazy stuff that goes on at an in-patient rehab hospital. I stayed at Mary Free Bed Hospital in Grand Rapids - have you heard of it? It's a prety amazing place. We'd give them nurses trouble, spinning around in our wheelchairs. It definately an experience. Well, enough! On thatt note...Diana

Re: Re: Boyne Mtn.
I do have a tendency to toss it out there! I am happy it was entertaining! I didn't get to Boyne until 1980. Before that I was in college and then taught in Idaho near Sun Valley! Didn't you just love the outdoor spa at Boyne Mt.! So refreshing! Muskegon is such a beautiful area! What fun being a teenager and going first class at the mountain! That rocks! sam

Re: Boyne Mtn.

Indeed it is a small world. Do you realize, even in writing a simple email - you go on and on, and are quite entertaining. Maybe that's what 'us' writers really are, eh? Gift for 'gab' gramps use to say...lol. Say, I thought with all your history at Boyne - do you recall a family by the name of 'Sheggrud'? He was manager at Boyne Mtn., and his wife Carol...his name was Carryl also - strange, lol. This would have been in the mid 70's. I was a teenager, and my best friend in Muskegon, Jana Sheggrud, well, we'd go up to her dad's and go skiing...1st class. Him managing the place - we had it made! What memories that brings back. Her dad also was the drummer/singer in the band at night. I believe he only did this for a couple-3 years. I just thought maybe you'd know him. Hey - thanks again for your kind words, it really does mean alot.(on the poem). - INAHA -

This is a delightful poem! I know I said it already, but it is! My oldest son trained for cross country races at Boyne Mountain and then both sons were downhill racers! They know that slope, too! My daughter was an excellent racer but the speed scared her and she just quit! lol When I worked there I had a ski program for kids grades 3-8! When elder Kircher owner of Boyne Mt.) got miffed with the public school system because he had to pay tuition for his son to attend our school he stopped doing for us! He couldn't understand that it was the law we had to follow, no kickbacks, lol! Private sector. Long, long story short I got to know Steve, his son, and when he took over operations we were back in business! Mr. Kircher was a sly one! Incredible history with him, he bought the ski hill in Boyne City and promptly shut it down! It was a favorite of Spider Savage another long story short, he is the man that Andy Williams', Moon River singer, wife (Claudine Longet) shot and killed! Small world indeed! Have a great day! sam

Re: Mamma's Lap

It really means SO much to me, that people enjoy this poem, because it was written for my mom. As in the poem, our favorite writer was, of course, Dr. Suess(did i spell that right?)

Anyhow - thank you so much for your kind words...it means more than you know.

In your poem you show mama and child of all time, if I may say so. Nice. BC-A, Bill’s RJLst
