Yes, I would like to hear more about this couple. To break off the engagement really emphasizes the problem about his attachment to his part of Spain. What has made him so fanatical? What are the other problems she has been putting up with? Are there other reasons for his being irritated by her? I look forward to chapter 2 tomorrow. I like the lively dialogue.

We can imagine ourselves with these people. You pull us into the conversation and situation. We get the “in” of living and visiting there. Dean Koontz in the genre of thrillers uses one line paragraphs. I guess it works in yours because you have a lot of detail and conversation.
