And, she was at one time. She was so hooked on slot machines that she maxed out several credit cards and was so far in debt that she had to be rescued. I hadn't even thought about this being like that, but it is.

LOL....
This sounds like talking to someone who is hooked on slot machines.......you always hear how they win...but you don't hear how much money they go through to hit that jackpot......the losses don't count!

Hi Taps!
I loved this account of your sister's version of capitalism! I think that it can easily turn into an addiction and consume your time, money and, yes, living space but it there a little sense of triumph in finding bargains and getting a good price for them. At some point it is no longer about the money but about the sense of striking gold -even if it was in small quantities!

TAPS, I giggle at your sister and your last comment, regarding no space in a spare room... I can relate (just ask my family) - I have a little corner in an Antique mall with goodies I have found through estate sales, antique malls and consignment shops - however, I just can't up the ante on them too much, rather I like for others to enjoy things that are old or vintage - so my prices are rather reasonable - affordable (and other sellers say that I am too cheap) I am a shopper, I must admit and I do get joy from it all but, I have stopped the habit of collecting for a bit, until my little shop picks up more interest. The times have gotten harder for most and meanwhile, the older things I have on display will gather dust and that's what neat bout the antiques and such...the dust is old too and kinda gilds or tarnishes some pieces

- meanwhile, I've emptied out my guest room and people can now go into our library room and actually sit and read if they want. (a recovering collector)

TAPS,
Hi there! Well, I didn't know you were a shopping hater, too. I hate shopping. I loathe the grocery store the most. I have sold a few items on Ebay before and that was nice to get some $. I have also bought a few things, too. Online shopping is much easier and less stressful for me!

I am a bi-polar shopper...
I either loathe it with a passion or I love it utterly, there is no middle ground and it just depends on my mood (well, a little on the company I am in too

The one place I like to shop too is in book store. B & N is heaven, and I tease my friend from Detroit that her living beside one is the only reason I visit her, LOL. Interesting post, TAPS. We all certainly have an opinion on it!

I shop only when I must!
I always feel odd when I'm on a business trip and the other women want to go shopping. I would rather see what sights there are to see than the inside of another mall!

I BOUGHT ONE THING ON EBAY JUST TO TRY IT OUT SOME YEARS AGO.
I actually like to see the item I am buying and I enjoy the fun of browsing. Shopping for me is fun but when I was unhappy it became an. I'm over that now. obsession and I wasted a lot of money on useless things like expensive shoes that were too high to walk in so I gave them away

I actually like shopping (within reason), and I am a GUY! But the eBay scene would drive me nuts, as would this business of constantly conducting 'yard' or 'garage' sales, as some of my friends and neighbours seem to be doing constantly - I think I'd rather
give my junk away...

I have a few items like that around my house....it's a trick not to get emotionally attached to a piece of furniture that I've re-done to sell for a profit; the kids just love the old rocking chair that I've painted a glossy black...we've had it now for months...

Queen V does the the whole ebay thing, buying and selling, but I'm not into it. I don't shop. I buy stuff. I know exactly what I want before entering, I take the most direct path to it, pay, and leave as quickly as possible.

I share that lack of enthusiasm for shopping. I could stay in a book store for a week. I love cafe's but general sellers of goods are not my fun people to hang with. I particularly dislike antique stores. I was in business of some sort most of my life and in both food and fashion I had to buy in such large quantities and always with the dread that it may not work or sell or whatever. I will visit with my computer. Sorry my comment is so long, this is just a peeve of mine. Be blessed.

Shopping, I believe, is the 21st century equivalent of
hunting and gathering. I don't miss the "good old" days when I foraged through the woods and meadows within a couple miles of home for blackberries to sell at McDaniels' store every summer. Shopping, even though you don't risk running into a berry-loving bear, is just not my favorite sport either.

I find the whole ebay business dead boring and would never ever dream about buying anything there. I do hate food shopping and any shopping to do with household items. I couldn't resist window shopping in Paris though!
