Wow, the fact that she's so attuned to her surroundings speaks volumes about your cat's intelligence.  She reminds me of my cat Moo-moos, who also terribly freaks out if I go anywhere for long.  He also follows me around the house and will often jump clear from the floor to my shoulder to get my attention.  And there he will curl like a mink stole until I shake him off.

Anyway, I'm glad your kitty is feeling safe and secure again.  It must be pleasant to know that you're accepted as "Mommy".  She sounds sweet.

Taps
I think that's a good thing, Taps.  At least now you know you can get decorators in without the cat going berserk.

That was great read, TAPS. Poor little thing. I believe too that she was afraid of losing you. Had to laugh about her fetching your son - I agree. He must have wondered what in heck was going on!

Cats are very sensitive to change
I inherited my Mom's cat when she died in January and she has been very sensitive to all the changes we have been through in our house this past month.  The first Sunday Richard ran a temp of 106 she laid on top of his head for 3 days and barely left his side.  As his conditioned became worse, she wouldn't even come in our bedroom except to check on him and then out she went.  My other cat who is very self involved with himself became extremely protective of me and still is.

Aw isn’t that cute love. Maybe it wasn’t to your son for a few moments. But it turns out as the cat’s pajamas.  BC-A, Bill’s RLJst

Oh how cute...I do believe animals have the same instincts too like the humans only they are unable to speak it except in their own language Taps.

I was giggling thinking about Son imagining what in the dickens could be going on with the cat... LOL ~  Great account to share and I love  your blog ~ Elyse

TAPS. ..cats are so sensitive to changes in the way furniture is arranged
and especially" to any hint you might be taking a trip without them...I always have two cry babies on my hands when Liz goes away on business....the 1st night is the roughest, then they seem to slowly settle down and "realize" (some way) that Mommy is going to be back soon......maybe they figure if Dad isn't upset, things must be ok....

Re: cpklapper
You may be right.  Pitiful is 13 years old now so she had almost eight years with Patti.  That's a lot of lovin' to hang on to.

Stages of mourning may be in play here, too.
Your cat may still be not believing that Patti is gone and each of her things that depart is another part of her slipping away.

TAPS
That is so precious. Cats are so smart. I think people do not give them the credit due because they are also very independent. Sweet cat, thanks for sharing that.

Poor little thing! She has feelings too! Happy reunion!

I know some people believe cats' dependence on humans, especially particular humans, is quite a matter of choice, and that most are aloof and indifferent.

But I think those are people who have never actually owned, or been owned by a cat.

Funny thing about cats.
I always suspected they knew things, that they had precognition. Ours used to know when an earthquake was coming. (We had lots of little tremblers when I was a kid in western Washington.) If you'd left with just your purse, Pitiful would have been okay, but you took furniture. Poor little girl.

Just as there was a time when medical people realized that new born babies
actually before then, back in the womb babies feel pain, the scientists will realize that animals have way more intelligence than we have ever given them credit for. Poor little Pitiful she was begging your son to get you back. She's terrified of losing you. Thanks for finishing the story for me.
