Sounds like you're putting together an effective team.
I could be wrong about this, maybe your story takes place before Delta Force or special forces was organized by the military, but anyone in this kind of security team would have to be ranked at Sgt. or Sgt. Major, which they achieve by proving themselves on the job. I picked up this intel from "Inside Delta Force" by Eric L. Haney who was one of the founding members of Delta Force. Haney also was a producer on the TV series "The Unit" -- now cancelled but maybe available on CD.
First paragraph you write scared face. I know you meant scarred.
the description "half American Indian" might be more realistic if you use tribal affiliation - as in "Cherokee," "Blackfoot," "Apache," etc... Physical characteristics differ among various native groups, as do fundamental attitudes toward the warrior art. Apaches are generally recognized as more warlike, as are the Sioux.

The description of John Thompson, his person and his bio-data, was fairly shocking, at least for me. It made me think of what I imagine to be the bio-data of those who choose to end their lives and countless others by becoming suicide bombers.
