Please let me add..
I regret the harsh tone of my first message to Dennis Dames. But I do wish to encourage him to spend less time promoting The Bahamas, and more time using poetry to tell the true stories from his life as he has lived it here. Isn't he the same Dennis Dames who organized and led the student demonstrations of the 1980s protesting unspeakable conditions at his highschool? Write about that Dennis, and speak in your own true voice, then you will be doing the work of the poet. Don't just give me a list of pretty words, tell a story in which SOMETHING HAPPENS, give me a moment in your life, show me an experience, cause me to experience it too. Blessings and kind regards.
Sincerely, Lynn Sweeting

Lynnie, but are you there now?
If not, it's possible you're a tad envious. In any case, neither your being from there or wishing to be there would justify your harshness toward Zephyr (unless you've had other run-ins I'm unaware of), but I'll let him take it from here...one more thing, Lynnie, why don't you blog about the Bahamas your way if you feel he's not representing it the way you'd like?

Lynnie, I think you're just jealous that you're not in the Bahamas
Give the guy a break. I don't see you getting on Jemmie's case about her new Hawaii blog. I say these island people deserve the titles they dream up for the rest of us to swoon over.

Get Real
Why be so pretentious and call your blog "Poems of The Bahamas?" Who are you, the poet laureate? Just be yourself, be humble, be individual, not nationalistic. Do not try to be the official poet of the country. Just be yourself. Forget about being Bahamian, forget about Bahamian culture, write about being real, write about being human. Speak for no one but yourself.
