I am feeling better, thanks TAPS
It was a week-end thing, am in top shape again. I forgot to mention the individually wrapped caramels, the chocolate rosebuds, the red boxes of english toffee, etc., etc.,...and there I go again. Obviously I stay away from candy stores for good reason, LOL!

Re: Fabulous trip down memory lane!
LOL, Pat-B. Low calorie is right! As I told Sam444, they were not edible! True, it is not much of a special treat to kids now because they have such easy access. My daughter-in-law won't feed either candy or pop to her two little dudes. Their treats are fruit (especially grapes, which they love!), and ice-cream.

Thank you, Sam444
Unfortunately, when we opened the box at my daughter's the darned things were hard as rocks. Couldn't eat them at all. Better for my waist, but a huge disappointment!! I've sent e-mails to the store and to the manufacturer. GRRR!

Well written!
The best touch in this post is the generosity of the shop owner.

That was a wonderful memory to share with us! And you know, one of the best (if not THE best) place to buy licorice now is in Australia. DOn'T ask me why but the licorice there is fantastic!

You sound like you are finally feeling better after your flu. What a fun post to read. It brought back some memories of my own, though licorice was not a part of mine. I never did acquire a taste for that. But I surely did love going to the store for penny candy.

Fabulous trip down memory lane!
Candies and sweets aren't such a treat any more for kids because they seem to have unlimited access. But mom didn't allow us much, and no soda pop except orange and then only once in a very long time. Sugar rots your teeth, she'd say. Thanks for the sweet and low-calorie reminder.

I remember the array of candy making my mouth water as a child! Wow on the 7 mile walk! The general store was two houses down in my small berg as a child! IO never got those dimes ans quarters, it was mostly nickels running to the store for my older cousins who lived next door to me! It was fun though! I never tasted the cigars, I bet they are great for they brought back wonderful memories and you have written so very well, too! sam
