I have a son, 23, currently serving in the Army and heading to Egypt next month! I did not want him to enlist because it is nerve racking every time he leaves the country! His next deployment is Afghanistan and I am dreading that one immensely! sam

I can relate to your experiences since I was an Army Brat. I have the utmost admiration for those who serve, but did not want my son to have to go into combat during the Gulf War. I'm glad we no longer have the draft. People who wish to serve (and there are plenty of women now who wish to participate also) have the opportunity but it is not forced upon those who do not.
