Re: Question?
Just states, please.  Come on, now.  It's never quite that simple.  I was born in Michigan, but moved to North Carolina at the age of three when my grandparents (who raised me) retired to my grandfather's native state.  So, in sp;ite of my birthplace, I've been a southerner most of my life except for a year and a half in Virginia looking for work in my fifties, and three years in the military spent mostly overseas.  I hated it in Virginia, and I wasn't terribly fond of being in the military in the sixties.  So, though you would probably like to label me as a "damned Yankee," I'm southern raised, educated, and a veteran to boot.  But you know most of that since you've evidently checked my "about me" page.  Here's something else you should know, but probably don't want to acknowledge.  There are millions more like me all over the south, some transplants and some southern born.  I know a lot of them and I know not many of them vote Republican.

I have said it on here before Xman. You know where I stand. I shoot straight forward. Some may not like it but that is who I am. I'm not worried that someone does not like me.

Back to the topic at hand.

RedStatesMan unplugged, if you will...

I have always thought the following:

There are white people, there are black people, there are brown people, there are red people, etc. then you have *iggers (N word) in every race. To me that word, which was used in it's full context earlier by glennB on this website, however I choose not to only on this website, does not define color. Look up the definition of that word. You will find people of all races that meet that criteria. You may find more of them in one race than another but I feel it is not race specific. I have met some white *iggers. I have met some black people who have treated me and my family better than some white people. However, I must admit that there does seem to be a large amount of them in the black race for some reason. Not sure why but I have my ideas as to why. I would also like to give my opinion on where liberals come into this picture but due to the civility of these comments thus far I would rather not.

I will say this that the 'mud baby' comment floored me. I never knew such a thing. i grew up playing sports in high school and college so I was with young black men a lot in a athletic team concept. I always thought that  team sports was interesting in that here we have a team of white and black men working towards the same goal. i still to this day have some of the black guys I played football with contact me on facebook. We were all fighting for a common goal. However, what I may add here and this is what is missing in the nation, WE WERE ALL ON THE SAME TEAM! GET IT? Dr. Condi Rice, J.C. Watts, Dr. Alana Keyes and Kevin Watts (RedStatesMan) are all on the same team! That is what it is all about! Not race! This is why I despise obama and the rest of the liebrals up there. Understand?

I AM TIRED OF THE WASPS
Just by chance, can WASP be defined any other way than this particular word?  So many people fit this vast category who are well-meaning, caring, and do their utmost to treat others with sincerity and kindness.  And yes -- there are the bigots, the haters, the "know-betters", who refuse (for whatever reason) to see beyond their own personal limitations.  Does not the same poision infect the whole human race to a degree?  What then must be our strategy for ridding the earth's body and system of this infection?  By eradicating those who disagree with a cherished poilicy.

Xeno & Red...

This dialogue is beginning to get informative & somewhat civil. So here's my two cents' worth:

Racism of one kind or another exists all over the world. It's roots lie in the early tribal days where a group of outwardly like people stuck together, and fought / defended against those that were not for food & shelter. Thus fear & greed, common survival instincts in living beings, were the motivators. Those who succeeded / overcame others were deemed to be superior in that sense, and characteristics, mostly outwardly, associated with them were considered better / superior. This basic, almost automatic, thinking / feeling continues today world over. The big difference now is, because our human species has evolved significantly since those early tribal days, though the basic tribal instincts still continue in one form or another, the growth / evolution of human's inner persona (spiritual, intellect, reasoning power) have made the outwardly differences, such as body characteristics, gender, etc, of less significance. Thus, the traditional racism in the world is meaningless.

More on this later, if there is sufficient interest in carrying on a civil, informed dialogue, and learning from each other. Best,

Re: Re: Re: Re: Question? Posted by RedStatesMan

The that I have, which is real and true, is that racism exists in every race and within a race. Personally I am sick and tired of every single issue that a certain type of people (liberal minded) have then they automatically cry racism. Hell, it has come to a point where it is plain stupid. It does not matter what the issue is, they call out racism when it has absolutely nothing to do with race at all. This is pathetic bullshot! It is juvenile to say someone who disagree with obama is a racist. Where is your fact, reasoning and logic in this type of dumbass response? There is none! Was I racist when I disagreed with all of what Clinton did? Yet let a 50% black man get in office then everyone is a racist who did not vote for him. This is juvenile and stupid!

Getting back closer to your topic here, being from the South, I too have had black friends and still do. I have known many who disagree with you completely. I have also heard many talk against other blacks. I remember the first time I heard the phrase "mud baby". I headr a black person call another a mud baby. I had to ask, "What is a mud baby?" The black person told me that a mud baby is a darker skinned black person. I had to chuckle because I had never heard of such a thing. This black woman told me that her Mom used to tell her and her sisters that she better never catch them bringing into the house a mud baby, must less marrying one. I almost fell out after hearing this! I have so many other stories to tell you that would give you a whole new revelation on this topic. But I think you get the idea here.

Re: Re: Re: Question? Posted by RedStatesMan

I sense you didn't read what I wrote.

I have been in the midst of the African-American Community in one manner or another for 35 years now.  I have been in run-down apartments and project apartments.  I could at one time walk through the projects and have several Blacks say hi because they know me.

About the European-American appelation -- I don't separate people into races because there is no real solid line of demarcation -- you can see a "blending" from one "race" to another.  What we call, Whites, or Caucasians, are mainly Europeans or those of European ancestry.  Again, there is no real demarcation -- you can see the various skin hues in what are commonly called, "whites".

I would welcome your observations on race.  I won't say much more here, except people can be around people of another culture all the time and know little, if anything about them.

Re: Re: Question? Posted by RedStatesMan

From your answer here I am more puzzled than before on this topic. The way this sounds would mean that you have had little experience with blacks. I grew up in the South. Our lives have been filled with blacks everyday. I am a little shocked how you speak about them as if they are some different form of life from Pluto. Being born in North Carolina and raised in southern Virginia (ten miles over the NC state line) then attending college in North Carolina and still residing in North Carolina I definitely have a different viewpoint than yourself. Who are the European-Americans? I am just confused on how you are speaking about that race. Trust me, here in the South we do not chain them to trees and beat them daily as many other people in this nation have a concept of southerners in that way. I just think many people do not realize the reality of it but I can tell you that I have seen by far more racism in the mid-west and up north than here in the South.

This is a topic that would be best served in me writing a post on it.

Re: Question? Posted by RedStatesMan
I am born, bred and raised a proud Missourian (although not so proud of certain areas of Missouri that still hold a narrow view of things.

I have mingled considerably with St. Louis' African-American population, have for four decades now, have a sense (however slight) of where they were, are and might be going.  Have seen changes in attitudes of generations.  Have taught in schools, visited homes, played basketball, been considered a good friend by many.

I only understand a small fraction of where African-Americans are; however, it is far more than the vast majority of European-Americans understand.

Question?
Where were both of you born and raised and where do you live now? Just states please.

It is hard for anyone who came along after the fifties,
other than immigrants, to comprehend what growing up and living as a minority in the South was like.  They did not experience school segregation, separate but equal facilities (that were separate, but far from equal), and being treated as a second class citizen because of a difference in skin color or religious belief.  They don't understand how hard it was to be different and denied basic civil rights a full century after the conclusion of the Civil War.  Even if you lived through it, but were not a minority, it is hard to comprehend just how damaging these injustices were.  Even mongrels like me who didn't suffer the full brunt of discrimination find it hard to comprehend how bad it was, or how bad it became again with the rise of populist conservatives like Jesse Helms (who made it impossible for me to ever consider becoming a Republican) and Ronald Reagan.  I'm proud to be enough American Indian (excuse me, Native American -- heaven forbid that I sound politically incorrect) to legally claim minority status, though it is not a card I've ever played except to express pride in my heritage.  At least I'm not so conservative and reactionary that I live in fear of the day when WASPs also become a minority.  In fact, if you subtract Catholics, Jews, and mongrels like me -- a practice of many diehard Wasps -- that day may already be here.

Re: Oh, Please, Please, Please...
WASPS HAVE MISSED A LOT -- you have no  idea what it means to be a "minority" in American Society.  Maybe we ought to list what you haven't missed -- what you have experienced or know of about Blacks.  Would you like to inform us?

Oh, Please, Please, Please...

tell us what it is that we have missed!?

Oh, are you going to make so much money off this post. Just off me alone. I will reply after you answer my question above!
