Re: mneme
That's a really good idea... how sad that my two fellow researchers are as computer illiterate as I am (smiles).

mneme
The natural wonders are wonderful, mneme as long as you don't question them too much and wonder where they or we came from and what the heck it's all about.  Have one of your researchers train a computer camera on them and you could watch the hatching.

Lovely, johnmacnab... nothing like a bit of appreciation of the natural world to lift the spirits.... we have herons nesting on a level with our 4th floor window here - they have to watch out for oversize crows who just love new bird eggs and probably the chicks too.  Pity I'll miss the hatching, my fellow researchers here have strict instructions to take photos.

Congratulations on actually having written your book, Ginnie; I still have to finish mine.  I'm pleased that you are writing articles, and getting them published.  Get those book queries out there, lass.  It's good to be back - (I think I'm back???)  LOL at all your visitors.

TAPS
It is magical, TAPS.  We don't have much of a view, but what we do have we use fully.

Re: ginnieb
It's the Scottish blood Mac...runs deep and far and wide!    Re:  your humour...not in the last few you've written but I sure have read enough of you to appreciate the great sense of humour you do have and how you convey it in your writing!  My book is gathering dust.  I haven't sent out queries for almost a year...I did send a slew and a few agents seemed a tad interested but nothing came of it.  I'm thinking I'll try again come Fall...for now I've been writing (a few) articles for magazines when I'm not entertaining the slew of Canadian and British relatives and friends that are visiting us almost non-stop until early Autumn.  How about you?  Have you finished your book?  And it's good to 'see' you again!

I love reading your posts about the river--in every season.  What a sight you must have everyday.

BrightIrish
Thank you BrightIrish.  I am forcing myself to look on the bright side.  I hadn't considered taking photos of the doves.  I'll see what I can do.  Earlier on today, I was trying to show our 4 year old granddaughter where the doves were but I couldn't see them - then the parents flew up in our faces and frightened the bejeesus out of both of us.

This is eerie, ginnie.  Last week I read some of your posts (for the first time in ages) and read your article.  Your article had me in tears and I had to log off.  Since then I've been castigating myself for not leaving a comment, and reminding myself to ask you if your book has been published.

Your comment puzzled me, Ginnie.  I re-read some of my latest blogs and I don't see any humour, but I do appreciate your compliment.

Pat_B
You are right Pat.  It will stay in my memory because I took the time to look and breathe in the moment.   I love the different moods of the river.  Now, the main channel is busy with private cabin cruisers, and the bay is busy with kayaks and canoes.  A small, single masted schooner is creeping up-river under engine power - at the speed it is going it will still be visible at midnight.

Smileycons!  Hi .. You have described beautifully your day in the sun. Glad your spirits are higher and know you will enjoy the time with the grandchildren! Do you think you could take a pic of the doves for us to see?

I love the image of still water running deep enough for ships
and the cunning bit about young doves snuggling down to hide. Sounds like one of those idyllic summer-only evenings that remains in memory long after a change in the weather.
