I think it's great that kids can work with their parents. As long as the parents don't over-work them, it's teaching them responsibilities and building a family bond. As for child labor laws, they are probably different in each state. I think they might be exceptions with a family owned business also.

There is nothing wrong with kids helping out their family... It gives them a sense of belonging and work ethics which seem to be lacking sorely in our adult population. As long as they get play time as well I think working during the summer is healthy and productive :-) Of course if you would have asked me this question when I was 12 I would have told you that working during the summer at my parents hotel sucked loll... Be well xoxo

To my knowledge....they are not breaking the law....
it's a family business. It's no different from having the kids work on a farm after school and all summer long.......believe me, i remember all about that!

shelly, I bet you find that they are breaking the law.
The big expense is finding safe daycare. You know of any good places? hehe.

I dare say there is not much wrong with it, as long as the kids are having fun, develop as sense of usefulness and resposibilty and are not ab-used. That only refers to owners' kids though.

I guess it's not that much different from asking your kids to do some "chores" around the home. Probably teaches them some responsibility and some work ethics.

I was around that age working for Dad though always under heavy supervision and could end my workday whenever I wanted. I think as long as those kids meet those two criteria things are fine.
