I have very good lady friends...people assume and waste their time...

I say that too many assumptions rule our behaviour and reactions. Assumptions can be fatal.

It has been said that men and women can't be "just friends"

without some form of attraction or something going on.

While I don't agree with this, I would say that in a majority of cases it is true.
With some of the exceptions being where they don't spend any or much physical time together or have already been in a past relationship together that didn't work out.

yes......people always have their thoughts.....I walk with customers and

talk with all people............if somebody wants to think it's their problem, not mine...
