My Grandson, Peter, had a pet tarantula for a long, long time. He kept it in a square fish tank on top of the piano where everyone could see it. I was always afraid it would get out while I was there. Somewhere along the way, it disappeared, tank and all. I was glad. I can think of nicer pets. Now he has a kitten. I like that better.

In Sonora, Mexico there are a lot of tarantulas. They are black and about 6 inches across. It's a little creepy when there's one that gets in the house. We found out that it takes 10 years for them to reach maturity (I need to check that out) but after we heard that we never killed them any more.
