Happy 4th of July TAPS and I am duly very GLAD
that the wildlife in Australia is not quite so fearsome as some of the backwoods in the USA....

Rocks????
I would be thinking more along the lines of a 30/06 rifle.......a taser as last resort.

I used to live in the foothills of the Cascades, in a very tiny town

and we were in the habitat of critters, coyotes, wolves, big cats, raccoons, -- all the folks who live in the woods and along the streams, the foragers, the killers. We were told they are more afraid of us than we are of them, but that's not necessarily so. We're slower and they're hungry. In the natural scheme of things, man (and woman) were prey, and but for our intellect, lunch.  This is still true.

It's always been eat or be eaten. "Fair" and zoning regs, even fences aren't part of the equation. Coyotes and cougars don't read.

Your friend might want to avoid dawn and dusk for her walks, that's when the wild things are heading for nest and burrow, or just starting out looking for food.

I think that I would arry a pellet gun. The odd twang passed the ear would
have a decent effect without doing toomuch damage. Wonder what the parks chapwill think if your friend should become the next kill. I think somehow the older I get the less I enjoy my own species.

Talk about a scary situation there. I hope your friend has some big rocks to carry.

Mountain lions and little dogs.
That little dog is just bait to the mountain lion. Thank goodness the lady doesn't jog. That would be too much enticement for the mountain lion. A lady was killed by a mountain lion when she was jogging on its turf near Boulder, Colorado, around 1993.

.....And to think that a rock could scare off a mountain lion!

Wow! What a story! I am just indifferent toward the gov't with their lack of compassion in this matter! For heaven's sake, it is a woman all alone! Yikes that she would want to do that as well! Happy 4th to you! sam

Taps
I think that the only real encroachment is the human race on the planet.
