Taps
I like living away from the centre of the city. In my case the city nearest to me has a population of, oh, 80,000. So I guess that put me in the small-town-girl category. Loved the description of the woods that are just beyond your front door! I can see why you enjoy your walks so much....

You paint a whole different world for me, one which I've never experienced (except the woodpeckers, perhaps). I can quite see why you love it so.

I have a son named Daniel, nicknamed Dan'l Boone
as a child he couldn't stay within the confines of a room
but had to get outdoors, exploring woods and streams
now he's a bowhunter, and part Cherokee, it seems.

I now live in the part of Texas that Daniel Boone traveled to....in fact, my gr-gr-grandfather followed Daniel from Tennessee where they were neighbors, to this part of Texas in 1845....settled with is wife and 10 of their kids.....plus some "free" slaves who chose to come with them.....we still have family reunions in the cabin he built. He was shot in the shoulder by Indians.....fascinating thing, the history of this land.....

Re: Ciel
Sounds like you know your American Indian tribes.
You just reminded me that it has been years since I have been to Fort Osage on the river.
I wonder if they are having anything special for the 4th of July holiday.

The stories of Daniel Boone are so exciting and adventurous to me. I would love to check out the "vines" in and around your neighborhood.

Re: shelly_b
Not only did Daniel Boone have a rifle to shoot a "bar" but he also had a wife and ten children: James, Israel, Susannah, Jemima, Levina, Rebecca, Daniel Morgan, Jesse Bryan, William, and Nathan. Only Jemima was stollen by the Indians and he had a heck of a time getting her back.

have to say... any Mohicans in that part of the world
would indeed be lurking, not wishing in the least to be spotted by the local Osage, if they had made it through the Shawnee lands between New York and Missouri, and past all the smaller tribal lands with less familiar names.
Still, I can appreciate the sentiment... My woods were full of elves and orcs...
