I study the Bible because it is a large part of our world culture.
I may disagree with a lot of it, but I feel it important to know where some of the ideas come from.

Why do they hate us?
The real reason they left a story like that is most likely to give them the feeling that they (as a race) were superior to the Moabites and Ammonites, so it was okay to come back after that little interlude in Egypt and kill everyone. After all they were all just the by-product of some really disgusting insest anyway, right?

If you think the Bible is so twisted why do you continue to read it? Just put it down already.

First of all, remember the region of the world where these things occurred--the Middle East. Women are still treated as property there and have no rights. Sad, yes, but it's their country and they can do what they like. As for the stories, I don't know why it's in there either, except that it DOES give us info on how some very ancient races of people came to be.
