Fabulous post. I've recently learnt of a Tamil (south Indian) customc called 'Kashi Yatra'. The groom, on the wedding day, pretends that he is renouncing this world and leaves home dressed in saffron clothing and bare essentials. The girl's father requests him to accept her as his life partner and the groom eventually relents and is brought to the marriage venue!-hardilaziz
